I'm D. I am terrible at keeping a journal and worse at remembering to take pictures. Growing up, I remember feeling disappointed that there weren't more picture of me as a baby. I blamed it on the fact that I was a second child and the excitement of children had already worn off (probably not the truth). From that, I vowed that when I had children there would be endless pictures, documented milestones and memories, and saved yarn and macaroni necklaces to be cherished by generations that followed.
In 2009, my resolve was unearthed and put to the test when my daughter, Little Lady (as she's referred to) arrived. Although she was post-Thanksgiving and pre-Christmas, she was smack in the middle of finals week, but I was ready.
(Or so I thought.)
My sister and her husband had given me a digital camera. Step one: check. What I didn't anticipate was that being a single mom with a new baby wasn't compensated by growing an extra arm to take pictures with. It is an acquired skill I am still trying to hone. Reminded of my childhood pledge, I began to think of documenting my daughters life. I could take as many pictures as I wanted, but then what? Develop them all and have stacks and stacks of pictures or albums used as file cabinets? No, no. That wouldn't do. It had to be organized and creative.
"Scrapbooking." A word that I always grouped with "quilting" and "canning". Raised in the LDS church and having been a rebellious teen, I always ran in the other direction when these seemingly "cookie-cutter" womanly activities we presented.
With age comes wisdom.
Well, in my case it was more defeat than wisdom. I couldn't think of a reason to continue this begrudged relationship with scrapbooking. But oh the cost! All of the supplies: the pretty paper, glue, stickers, slipcovers, binders, and squiggly scissors! I hadn't prepared for all of that! And where would I store it all? Plus there is only ever room enough for titles and captions. I wanted to document pictures and narrative included. No, no. Traditional scrapbooking wouldn't do either.
I finally found my answer. ScrapBlogging. Yes. It was pretty much a divine revelation. (Or just the result of hours Googling.)
I began right away. It is cathartic for me to digital scrapbook and blog. No mess, no supplies, just pictures and the creative process. It gives me time to reflect which is more than a breath of fresh air on days when I feel like I can't catch up.
So this is for my Little Lady and any other Little Gifts that I am blessed to have.
When I am not ScrabBlogging, I enjoy making my Little girl laugh, singing my heart out, reading almost everything, Latin and ballroom dancing, studying the scriptures, and attending the theatre/music performances.
D in a nutshell: ecstatic mother, ScrapBlogging enthusiast, shameless blog-stalker, proud daddy's girl, motivated student, fun-loving singer/dancer, best little sister, and a humbly imperfect daughter of God.

I don't mind it.
I mean, I don't get much, if anything, else done.
